DUP To Elect New Leader

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is to meet today, 14 May, to elect a new leader and deputy leader.

Lagan Valley MP Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Lagan Valley MLA Edwin Poots are in the running to replace Arlene Foster.

28 MLAs and eight MPs, will meet virtually to hear both men's pitches before voting in a secret ballot.

Polls are to close at 4pm and the result is expected at 5pm.

Gregory Campbell MP, Paula Bradley MLA and Paul Frew MLA have put themselves forward to become the next deputy leader.

Alliance Leader David Ford MLA and Deputy Leader Naomi Long MP have expressed their condolences following the death of former Deputy Leader Addie Morrow. Addie served as a Councillor on Castlereagh Council and in the 1982 Assembly.

War of words erupt between Trimble and Donaldson
A war of words erupted today between Ulster Unionist leader, David Trimble and Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson. It follows Mr Donaldson's high profile defection from the Ulster Unionist Party to the Democratic Unionist Party on Monday.

Green Party Deputy Leader To Step Down
The Deputy Leader of the Green Party in Northern Ireland is to step down. Claire Bailey MLA confirmed she is stepping aside ahead of the Party Conference and AGM later this month. Ms Bailey has been deputy leader since November 2014 and was re-elected as MLA for South Belfast in May 2017. She will remain a party member and MLA.
