Police appeal following stabbing in south Belfast

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in south Belfast.

The 19-year-old victim was walking along Carmel Street at around 8.45pm when a man approached him and tried to steal his phone.

The attacker, who was wielding a large knife, then stabbed the man in the chest. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Elsewhere, a man has been shot in a paramilitary style attack in Dundonald.

The attack took place in the predominantly loyalist Ballybeen estate at around 8.30pm on Thursday.

The victim was walking along Drumadoon Drive when he was bundled into a passing car by three masked men.

He was then taken to a car park at Morvan Park where he was shot once.

He has since been treated in hospital for a hand wound.

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two men die in separate stabbing incidents
Two people have been killed in separate stabbing incidents in Northern Ireland over the weekend. Hugh McKibben, 51, of Main Street in Carrowdore died in a stabbing incident at a house on Inisharoan Court about midnight on Sunday May 5. Four people were arrested following his murder but three have since been released on police bail.

Woman Injured In Stabbing Attack
A 35-year-old woman is in a critical but stable condition in hospital following a stabbing attack in west Belfast. The incident occurred at a property in the Woodside View area of Poleglass at around 6pm on Monday. A man and woman called to the house and there is believed to have been an altercation at the door.
