Teenage girls injured by glass in paint attack

Three teenage girls have been injured after their home was attacked in Londonderry on Monday night.

The girls, who were at the front of the house at the time, suffered cuts to their legs caused by broken glass after paint was thrown through the front window of the house in the Fountain Estate area at about 10pm.

A four-year-old boy who was with the girls at the time was splashed with paint but escaped injury.

Elsewhere in Londonderry, around 70 homes were evacuated early this morning after a suspect device was found in the Ballymagroarty area of the city.

The object, which was found at Synge Court shortly after midnight, led to dozens of families being evacuated from their homes as army bomb disposal tackled the device.

A local primary school was opened to accommodate those evacuated.

Residents were allowed to return home a around 2.30am after a controlled explosion was carried out on the device which turned out to be a hoax.
