University of Ulster to host conflict conference
Over 60 conflict research specialists from around the world are to converge on Londonderry next week when the University of Ulster’s acclaimed peace study unit, INCORE holds a major training event.
The week-long annual International Summer School, which starts on Monday, will scrutinise frameworks for the fostering of long-term transformation from violent conflict into sustainable peace, and examine guidelines for evaluating the effectiveness and impact of peace initiatives.
Professor Paul Arthur, an INCORE Associate who directs the MA in Peace and Conflict Studies at Magee, said: “Our experience in Northern Ireland has provided a number of key lessons for those involved at the policy end of peace process management.
“We have learned a great deal about how leadership functions in the context of intense negotiations and about how context and strategy are all-important in creating the conditions for dialogue between antagonists, and later, for delivering peace agreements.”
The participants, from troubled regions in Africa, South America, Asia, Eastern Europe and North America, include leading international experts policy-makers, researchers and full-time peace-building activists.
INCORE, which is affiliated to the United Nations University in Tokyo, co-ordinates all peace and conflict study activity across the University of Ulster.

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast
Detectives are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man who fell from a bus in Belfast. Police have said that they believe the man was travelling on a 2J Translink Metro bus service at around 11:15am on Friday, 08 November, when he suffered a fall as the bus travelled along Royal Avenue, near it's junction with North Street.

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.
