Police Investigate Home Invasion Incidents In Newry

Local police are investigating two home invasion incidents that occurred in the Newry area on Saturday, 05 October. In both cases, a male suspect entered the homes of older residents under the guise of offering gutter cleaning services.

The first incident took place around 11:00am in Loanda Crescent. A resident was approached by the suspect at her front door but refused his services. However, the suspect was later discovered to have entered the property through a rear door. The resident was able to scare him away.

The second incident occurred shortly before noon in Ardgreen Drive. The suspect was able to enter the home of an elderly man and steal a safe and a bank card. The victim has been left deeply shaken by the ordeal.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone with information and would also like to speak to anyone who believes this male may also have called at their address. Police suspect republican involvement in bar blaze
Police suspect republican paramilitaries were behind an arson attack on a bar in Co Tyrone on Thursday night. A gang of men, who entered Katy Daly's bar in Strabane at around 8.30pm on Thursday evening, told customers to leave before they dowsed the interior of the pub with what was thought to be petrol and set it alight.

Kieran McLaughlin Arrest - PSNI Recovers Firearms
The PSNI has recovered three suspect firearms following yesterday's arrest of Kieran McLaughlin, who was apprehended at the end of a six-day manhunt at Fern Park in the Galliagh area of L'Derry city. The 58-year-old is suspected of the murder of 35-year-old Barry McCrory last Thursday morning at the victim's flat near Shipquay Street in the city.
