Appeal For Information After Young Woman Robbed In Newry
Detectives in Newry are investigating a robbery that occurred on the Tandragee Road in the city last night, Thursday 24th April, where a 20-year-old woman was targeted by two men.
The victim had left the Damolly Retail Park in her car at approximately 11:10 pm and was driving towards the Fiveways Roundabout when she noticed another vehicle seemingly following her. This vehicle then began flashing its headlights before swerving in front of her car, forcing her to stop on the Tandragee Road.
A man exited the passenger side of the pursuing car and approached the victim's vehicle. He proceeded to smash the passenger window and attempted to remove items from the seat before fleeing in the suspect vehicle, which was being driven by a second individual. Disturbingly, the suspect vehicle returned a few minutes later while the young woman was at the roadside attempting to contact the police. The vehicle stopped again, and this time the driver emerged, grabbed the victim, and stole her mobile phone. Both men then sped off in their vehicle in the direction of Newry city.
Detective Dougherty commented on the incident: “This young woman has been through a traumatic ordeal and detectives in Newry CID are currently offering her appropriate support. We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the robbery and we are asking the public for help in identifying the two suspects."
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these events or has any information, including dash-cam or other recorded footage, that could assist their investigation. They are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference number 1817 24/04/25. Alternatively, information can be submitted online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org/".
