New Fixing Factory Project To Tackle Waste In L'Derry

Repair & Share Foyle has announced the launch of its brand-new Fixing Factory, which is set to officially open on 1 September 2025. The project, which is supported by a £188,094 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, is designed to expand on the group’s popular monthly Repair Cafés by providing a permanent space for local people to have small household electricals repaired.

Unlike the Repair Cafés where repairs are carried out on the spot, the new factory will allow skilled volunteers more time to fix items. It will also offer workshops for residents, schools, and businesses to learn repair skills themselves. The project is one of three initiatives designed to tackle waste and build a more sustainable, circular economy.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, welcomed the project, stating that it is a "fantastic addition" to the Repair & Share Foyle initiative.

He said: "This project will not only help reduce waste and protect our environment but also empower local people with the skills and confidence to repair and reuse."

Andrew Wright, E-waste Coordinator at Repair & Share Foyle, noted that the new project adds flexibility for those who are unable to wait at a Repair Café. Initially, the service will offer only five pre-booked drop-off slots each month.
