Homeowners warned over bogus callers
Police are advising members of the public to be vigilant when giving personal details out over the phone or to door-to-door callers questioning about upcoming holiday plans.
It follows a recent spate of reports from members of the public who have been contacted by a person purporting to be from the Tourist Board.
This person claims to be conducting a survey and asks about holidays such as dates they are going and whether they use cash or not.
Police said they believed the calls to be bogus and warned homeowners to be careful when giving personal information to a stranger.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are keen to hear from anyone else who has received calls such as these. We do not believe these calls to be genuine and would advise members of the public to never give away details of their finances, holiday plans or times when your property will be vacant.”
If anyone has any concerns, further advice and information can be obtained from their local station.

Police issue fraud warning similar to ‘Canadian lottery’
Officers from the PSNI’s Fraud Squad are warning members of the public about a form of telephone fraud similar to recent ‘Canadian lottery’ fraud incidents. In the newest form of the fraud, callers are contacted by person claiming to represent the Canadian tax authorities and asking that a sum of money be sent to cover a tax on winnings.
