Chinese takeaway robbed in Newtownards

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a Chinese takeaway in Newtownards.

The incident occurred at the Stonegate Shopping Centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is understood that two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the takeaway shortly after midnight and demanded money. One of the robbers then opened the till and removed a sum of cash before making off with his accomplice.

Police believe a third man joined the pair outside the shop and that all three made off towards Strateden Heights in the town.

The gunman and his companion were described as between 5' 8' and 6' tall of slim build. Both were dressed in blue jeans, black tops, black balaclavas and surgical gloves.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact detectives at Newtownards on 028 9181 8080.
