Couple ‘shaken’ following robbery
Detectives in Coleraine are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Co Antrim on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place in a laneway between Dunluce Street and Causeway Street in Portrush shortly before 8pm.
A couple were making their way down the laneway when they were approached by two youths wearing black baseball caps, dark jackets and jeans. One of the youths threatened the couple with a knife and demanded that the woman hand over her handbag. The youths then fled in the direction of the Dunluce Avenue car park.
The beige coloured handbag contained a small amount of cash, personal items and some medication. Detectives are concerned that if the medication, consisting of tranquillisers and painkillers, is taken without medical supervision, it could potentially be very harmful.
The couple were physically uninjured but very shaken by the incident.
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and noticed anything suspicious is asked to contact detectives at Coleraine on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
