Man dies as road-sweeping vehicle plunges into quay
A man has died after the road-sweeping vehicle he was driving fell into the water at a quay in Belfast on Thursday.
Authorities at the Port of Belfast confirmed that the vehicle went into the water at Stormont Wharf at around 1.40pm in unknown circumstances.
The emergency services were immediately contacted, however the employee was confirmed dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Port of Belfast expressed sadness at the news.
"This is a terrible tragedy and the thoughts of all Port of Belfast staff are first and foremost with the family and friends of the deceased," he said.
"The exact cause of the incident is not yet known and a full investigation has already begun."
Elsewhere, a man has died in a road traffic accident in Co Fermanagh on Thursday.
Only one vehicle is believed to have been involved in the accident which occurred on the Clones Road between Clones and Newtownbutler.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw a silver Mitsubishi Shogun travelling towards Newtownbutler at about 8pm on Thursday to come forward.
