Jobs loss at Cork textiles firm
Youghal based Seafield Technical Textiles is to close with the loss of 40 jobs.
The East cork company, which has produced high specification fabric goods for industrial and other specialised uses for 15 years, will close by the end of the year.
Seafield Technical Textiles blamed the decision to close the Youghal plant on competition from lower cost countries.
The local TD for the area David Stanton has appealed for the government to secure other firms for the Youghal area that has been hit by other "significant" closures in recent years.
The Minister for Trade and Commerce, Michael Ahern, expressed his disappointment at the job losses at Seafield Technical Textiles.
“This news will come as a severe blow to the workforce and their families”, the Minister said. “My sense of disappointment is heightened by the fact that I have many friends who are members of the staff and have been with the company for many years”.
“I have asked that every support will be made available to the staff of the company by the state agencies so that those affected can find alternative employment as soon as possible” he continued.
