Police appeal over jewellery robbery in Coleraine

Police in Coleraine have appealed for information following a robbery at a jewellery store at around 4pm yesterday.

A man, wearing either a hooded top or a beanie hat, entered the shop on Queen Street and made his way into a back storeroom.

The shop owner confronted the robber, and a struggle broke out.

During this, two other men entered the shop and began removing items of jewellery from display cabinets.

Two of the robbers ran off and the shop owner engaged in a struggle with a third man, who dropped a number of items before making off.

They escaped in a maroon coloured car in the direction of the Millburn Road, and then turned onto the Portstewart Road.

The car was later discovered at Cloonavin Green.

There were two customers in the shop at the time, however no one was injured.

The robbers are not believed to have been armed.

Elsewhere, an off licence was robbed in the Stockman's Lane area of South Belfast at around 4pm.

Two men, one armed with a gun, entered the premises and tied up a female member of staff.

The men escaped with an undisclosed sum of money, and cigarettes.

Meanwhile, in County Armagh a post office was robbed when two men, one armed with a gun, entered the business on Main Street in Forkhill at around 2pm.

The robbers made off with a sum of money and their car was later discovered, burned out in the Hackballscross area of Louth.

Armed robbery at east Belfast newsagents
Police in east Belfast have appealed for information following an armed robbery at a newsagents yesterday evening. The incident happened at around 7.30pm, when two men, one of whom was armed with what is believed to have been a handgun, entered the shop on the Upper Newtownards road and threatened staff.
