Shotgun found in Belfast cemetery

Police in west Belfast have appealed for information following the discovery of a shotgun from a Belfast cemetery yesterday afternoon.

A police spokesperson has said that the weapon was found on the Falls Road side of the City Cemetery during a search at around 4pm.

Police are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Meanwhile, detectives in Dungannon have appealed for information after two guns were seized following reports of suspicious activity in the Brackaville Road area of Coalisland yesterday.

The rifles, one of which had telescopic sight, have both been removed by officers for forensic examination.

Acting Chief Inspector of Dungannon and south Tyrone district, Alywin Barton said that the Coalisland community was a safer place now that the guns are off the streets.

He continued: "In the wrong hands, these lethal weapons have the ability to cause grievous injury or take life.

"Due to the positive police work resulting from the inquiry into suspicious activity, these guns have been taken out of circulation. This must be welcomed by everybody."

Anyone who may have any information relating to either incident, should contact police on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
