Attempted abduction in County Down
Police in County Down are appealing for information following the attempted abduction of a ten-year-old girl yesterday afternoon.
The child was walking home from school near the Beechgrove area of Ballynahinch when a white car pulled up alongside her.
A woman, who was in the front passengers seat of the vehicle opened the door, blocking the girl's path.
She then asked the girl her name, offered her a sweet, and offered the child a lift.
The girl refused and as she ran off, the woman shouted after her.
A police spokesperson added that the vehicle in which the pair were travelling, failed to start several times before they eventually managed to drive off.
The couple are described as being aged between 20 and 30-years-old. The woman is said to have shoulder length blonde/brown hair, blue eyes with purple eye shadow and red lipstick. She is said to be wearing a pink and white striped top, blue jeans, trainers and a gold chain shaped like a teddy bear.
The man is said to be around 5' 9" in height, clean shaven with short spiked blonde/brown hair and was wearing glasses with dark coloured frames. He was wearing a red coloured t-shirt, with a silver chain around his neck.
The incident comes just days after a similar abduction attempt in Londonderry on Sunday evening.
However, police have said that they do not believe the incidents to be connected.
Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have any information which may help to identify the two people involved, to contact detectives at Ballynahinch on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously via the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

A 12-year-old girl has escaped an abduction attempt in west Belfast on Wednesday. The driver of what was described by police as a "distinctive" black four-door car shouted at the girl to get into his vehicle on the Shaw's Road at about 9.15pm. The girl immediately screamed and ran off.

The girl was with two friends when an old type navy Vauxhall Nova approached them. A passenger in the vehicle opened his door and tried to coax her into the car. However, the girl ran away and the car sped off.

Attempted robbery of County Down pensioner
Police have warned people to be vigilant after bogus callers attempted to rob a pensioner in County Down. The incident happened at around 2.30pm yesterday, when a boy called to the 86-year-old woman's home at Vianstown in Downpatrick, claiming that he had kicked his football into her back garden.
