Drink driving campaign figures released
Over 100 drink drivers have been caught each week during the current PSNI Christmas anti-drink driving campaign.
A message saying 'we warned you' was issued by police as they released that 217 drivers had been detected as being over the limit throughout the first two weeks of their annual winter campaign.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said that if an “irresponsible minority” of people are determined to drink drive, then they can be assured that they will be caught.
He added: "For those who choose to ignore all the advice and warnings there will inevitably be only one route and that is to the courts where they will lose their licences."
During the operation, around 47% of breath deaths were carried out between midnight and 3am, and out of the 217 people caught, 77 were twice over the legal limit, with 24 drivers three times over the limit and two were four times over.
