NI homes affected by stormy weather

Over 1,000 homes in Northern Ireland have been left without electricity as a result of the overnight stormy weather.

The worst hit areas have been Enniskillen, Omagh and Coleraine, which were affected after strong winds brought down power lines.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has opened incident centres and teams of engineers have been working steadily throughout the morning to try to restore power.

The stormy weather is expected to continue throughout today and motorists have been warned to take extra care on the roads.

A spokesperson for NIE said that engineers were working through difficult conditions, however they hoped power would be restored “as soon as possible.”
