300 jobs could go at east Belfast manufacturer

It has been reported that nearly 300 workers are to be made redundant at a seatbelt manufacturing plant in east Belfast.

Staff at the European Components Corporation factory in Dundonald were told of the decision earlier today. The majority of jobs losses will be phased in between March to August.

In total, 286 jobs will go at the company, which makes seatbelts for a range of car manufacturers, including Toyota, Honda and Vauxhall.

The plant is one of the biggest employers in east Belfast, with a workforce of more than 800.

Of the 286 jobs going, 140 will be agency employees with the rest being made up of full-time staff and maintenance workers.
