House ransacked in Belfast

Police in South Belfast are appealing for information after a gang of armed men ransacked a house near Belfast city centre.

The incident took place at 11.40pm last night, when two women called at the house in Eliza Street Terrace in the Markets.

Four people were upstairs in the house at the time.

It is understood the women were followed by a group of 10 to 12 men wielding bats and cudgels.

The men smashed windows, and destroyed garden ornaments while a number of rooms downstairs in the house were attacked in the incident.

The women are thought to have arrived at the house in a blue Ford Ka, with ‘R’ plates.

A silver Vauxhall Corsa and a gold Renault Clio were spotted in the area, and police believe the attackers may also have used these cars.

One of the women has been described as being about 25-years-old, of slim build, around 5ft 2ins tall with dark-coloured hair tied back.

The other is believed to be over 25, slim, also about 5ft 2ins, with red hair. She was wearing a brown checked jacket.

Police are asking for anyone with any information to contact them at Musgrave Park station, on 0845 600 8000 or call the confidential Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
