Detectives investigating armed robberies in north Belfast

Police are investigating two armed robberies which took place last night in north Belfast.

Three males entered an off licence at the Throne Centre on the Whitewell last night at around 7.30pm. Two of the men were armed, one with a wheel brace and one with a srewdriver.

One of the thieves jumped over the till and threatened a female member of staff with the wheel brace before they made off with a sum of money.

A second robbery then took place at a grocery store in the Whitewell Road at around 8pm.

A female member of staff was threatened and ordered to hand over money from the till.

Detectives have said a blue Mazda 323 was used in both instances, and was later found burnt out in the Dunville Street area of west Belfast.

The males have been described as being between 5ft 4ins and 6ft tall and all were of slim build.

The tallest of the males, who was just under 6ft is said to have a series of scratches down the left hand side of his face, and was wearing a baseball cap.

Police are appealing to any witnesses to contact them on the Antrim Road Station on 0845 800 6000 or contact them confidentially on the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
