Fire causes ‘extensive damage’ to church

Police in north Belfast are investigating a suspicious fire in Fortwilliam Presbyterian Church on the Antrim Road, that caused extensive damage to the property in the early hours of this morning.

The fire, which started some time after 12.30am damaged the front door and the basement of the church.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity at the time of the blaze, to contact them in north Belfast on: 0845 600 8000. Alternatively police can be contacted confidentially on the Crimestoppers line on: 0800 555 111.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

‘Suspicious’ fire at Downpatrick Baptist church
Detectives in County Down have launched an investigation into a fire at a Baptist church. Downpatrick Baptist Church was extensively damaged in the blaze that occurred at about 6pm on Saturday evening. The fire at the Church Street building has been described as “suspicious”.

Church attack condemned as 'sacrilege'
A Presbyterian church in north Belfast has been badly damaged by burglars who escaped with a multi-gym, two stereo sets and a television. The thieves set off fire extinguishers and went on a wrecking spree in broad daylight at Fortwilliam Church, on the junction of Fortwilliam Park and the Antrim Road, sometime between 3pm and 6.
