Police probe two arson attacks in Armagh
A pub and a classroom have been extensively damaged in separate arson attacks in Co Armagh last night.
The Hideaway Bar in Scotch Street, Armagh City, was gutted following an incident in which police said "lives could have been lost".
A boy aged between 15 and 17 entered the pub at around 9pm last night carrying a plastic bag. When he was challenged and told to leave the premises, he produced a plastic container from the bag and doused seats with flammable liquid. A struggle ensued but the boy managed to light the liquid and make his escape. There were no injuries reported.
Police spokesman Maurice McClelland said: "Detectives said but for the excellent actions of firefighters, lives could have been lost and buildings either side could have been destroyed."
The boy is described as being around 6 ft tall and was wearing a camouflage jacket.
At around 10pm a fire was discovered in a classroom at St Patrick's Primary School on the Loughgall Road in Armagh City. The classroom was extensively damaged in the blaze.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives at 028 3752 3311.
