Pensioner suffers head wound during burglary
A 75-year-old pensioner has suffered a head wound after he was struck with a frying pan during an aggravated burglary in east Belfast this morning.
The pensioner was asleep in his Cregagh Park home when two men burst into his bedroom at around 4.30am.
The men initially tried to suffocate the pensioner with a pillow before threatening to kill him. They then hit the man on the head with a frying pan.
Two neighbours who had heard the commotion raised the alarm and contacted the police.
The burglars ran off with £30 in cash and some bankcards. The two men are described as being well built, with strong local accents.
Chief Superintendent Campbell Dixon said: "For someone to be so viciously assaulted for a paltry sum of money beggars belief. It is absolutely obscene."
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222.
