Tobacco Haul Is Year's Biggest
Detectives are investigating a major contraband discovery - which has turned out to be the biggest seizure of its kind for a year.
Along with customs officers, the police had undertaken a major operation to thwart the smuggling of 6.5m cigarettes through Belfast docks.
Four different brands of cigarettes were found in a container on the back of a lorry arriving at the docks on Tuesday night.
Customs officials who opened the container doors saw rows of roof space insulation, but behind those were the concealed contraband cigarettes.
One man has been arrested and while customs officials will not disclose where the shipment had arrived from, either way they would have been sold on the black market for a few pounds a packet with the criminal gang profiting around £1.5m.
