Teenage Girl Bailed On Holland Murder Charge
A teenage girl has been remanded on bail by Belfast Magistrates Court today after being re-arrested and charged with the murder of west Belfast greengrocer Harry Holland last September.
The girl, now 16, had previously been charged in connection with the killing and was re-arrested on Thursday.
She was initially charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Mr Holland, 65, was stabbed with a screwdriver near his home at Norfolk Drive last September.
At the time, the killing caused an enormous reaction in the close-knit area.
Hundreds of people gathered to attend a vigil in west Belfast for the victim, who was stabbed in the head as he tried to prevent his delivery van from being stolen.
He was placed on a life support machine in hospital, but died soon after.
One significant change that resulted from the killing was that the police began to receive more community co-operation.
Speaking last October, the police area commander, Acting Chief Inspector Darren Rice, told 4NI there had been a lot of engagement with the community in relation to anti-social behaviour and criminality in the west Belfast area.
"Police have recently attended meetings with residents and other local groups in an attempt to progress this engagement and it's only with the assistance of the community and other agencies that we will be able to tackle this problem.
"I continue to make my officers and myself available for engagement with the community but I still believe that there are some incidents that are going unreported and I would encourage members of the public to come forward with any concerns."
