Scarf Strangles Karting Teen
A teenage girl from Cambridgeshire has been killed in a go-karting tragedy.
She died shortly after she drove a go-kart around an indoor track and her scarf came loose and got caught in the engine, cutting off her airway.
Suzanne Cornwell, 18, was one of a group of people invited to a racing track for a private after-hours session with a member of staff reported to have let the group in to the circuit.
Paramedics and police were called to Cambridgeshire Raceway in Caxton at 9.40pm last Thursday.
East of England Ambulance Service said the teenager had a "severe injury to her neck" and was unconscious when paramedics arrived.
Suzanne, from Hardwick, was rushed to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, but died the next day.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said today that a joint investigation had been launched with South Cambridgeshire Council.
It has been reported that the marshal, who worked at the site for two years, has now been sacked, as all the other staff had left at 8pm.
Cambridgeshire Raceway, formerly known as Kartsport, was bought by the Peterborough Raceway company in July.
It has an indoor circuit as well as a 700 metre-long outdoor circuit, and is due to host the British Schools Karting Championship in January 2010.

Increase In Knife Robberies, Statistics Show
The number of robberies involving knives rose by 18% between July and September last year, according to new figures released today. The Home Office statistics also showed that domestic burglaries rose by 4% during the same period, while fraud and forgery was up by 16%. Drug offences have also risen by 9%.

A 12-year-old boy has drowned in the river Cam on the outskirts of Cambridge. The alarm was raised at around 18:10 on Tuesday evening when the boy didn't resurface after going into the water at Lammas Land at the Fen Causeway.

Cambridgeshire Police Shooting Referred To IPCC
An investigation has been launched into the death of a man involving a firearms officer in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Police were called at about 19:45 on Wednesday 21 October to reports of concern for people in a property in Duck Lane, St Neots. Officers attended the scene and at just after 8pm a man was shot by a firearms officer.

Man Arrested In Connection With Cambridgeshire Cannabis Farm
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a cannabis farm in Cambridgeshire. Police uncovered around 75 cannabis plants at a property on Bencroft Lane, Warboys, on Monday, 26 October. The man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and is currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
