'Pitbull' Seized In House Raid
A suspected Pitbull Terrier was seized during a raid on a house in Bloxwich, Walsall this week, West Midlands police have confirmed.
Officers executed a warrant under the Dangerous Dogs Act at a house on Irvine Road on Tuesday 5 December.
The local neighbourhood team had received information that the occupants were in possession of a Pitbull type of dog and that there were concerns for the animal.
The dog was taken into police kennels and will be assessed to determine its breed, prior to any decision being made about its future.
This is the second Pitbull type of dog to be seized by the Bloxwich team in four months.
Officers also exectuted a warrant at the Leathern Bottle pub on Creswell Crescent on 12 September 2009.
On this occasion a dog which was seized was confirmed to be a Pitbull and was subsequently destroyed.
Acting sergeant James Hunt from Bloxwich police station said: "This breed is classed as a dangerous dog by the government and as such should not be kept in people's homes.
"There have been some well publicised cases where ownership of this kind of animal has gone badly wrong, and we are keen for us not to see this kind of incident locally.
"We take a proactive stance in protecting the public from these breeds and we always urge anyone who believes that a dangerous or illegal dog is being kept in their neighbourhood to contact their local police team, or call the RSPCA."
