Body Shock In London Park

Kensington Gardens in London was sealed off by the police today after the discovery of a body by a member of the public. The unidentified woman, who is white and was in her 20s or 30s, was found near the Round Pound at about 7.30am and the park closed as the investigation got underway. At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained. A post mortem examination will take place in due course. Kensington Gardens adjoins Hyde Park and is home to Kensington Palace, the Albert Memorial and the Serpentine Gallery.

UCATT's Lewis Died

Lou Lewis the former UCATT Regional Secretary for the union's London and South East Region died on Monday 11 January 2010. Aged 71, Lou was a leading figure in the rank and file builders' movement in the 1960s and 1970s who later rose to become a highly effective and respected UCATT Regional Secretary for the London South East Region. He joined the union as soon as he began his bricklaying apprenticeship after leaving school. This was the mid 1950s, when union hierarchies were often remote from their members and the "shop stewards' revolution" of the following decade had yet to begin.

Appeal After Humberside Crash

Humberside Police has appealed for witnesses after a road traffic collision on Bernadette Avenue, Hull, at between 5pm on Friday 08 January and 5pm on Saturday 09 January 2010. A red coloured Mitsubishi Charisma was parked on the side of the road when another vehicle collided with it before leaving the scene. There was damage caused to the bumper of the car. Officers would either like to speak to the driver who allegedly collided with the car or anyone who witnessed the incident.

Air Bag Killed Girl

A car's safety airbag has been found to have killed a young girl, who was aged just 10. She died when it inflated with such force that it fractured her skull, an inquest has heard. Chloe Bunney, of Felinheli, Gwynedd, was sending a text message when her mother lost control of the car as she tried to help her daughter. The hearing at Caernarfon heard Jolene Bunney, 29, collided with an Audi and another car in Porthmadog, on 29 May. Recording a verdict of accident death, coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones said airbags "do have their own dangers". The inquest, held on Wednesday, was told Chloe suffered a large fracture across the base of the skull in the crash.

Pensioner's Body In Sea

The body of an elderly man has been pulled from the sea at Scarborough. Police, coastguard and lifeboat crews were called out to North Bay at about 5.30pm on Thursday following reports of a person in the water. The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Scarborough hospital where he was pronounced dead. A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said it was not yet known whether the death was suspicious and investigations were under way.

Police Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Car Park Accident
A two-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car in a north-west London supermarket car park. Police have appealed for witnesses. Metropolitan Police has said that the child was hit by a vehicle in the car park of Asda in Forty Lane, Wembley. She was treated by paramedics but later died in hospital.

Woman Dies In London Bus Crash As Police Car Fatality Probed
A woman was killed this morning in an accident involving a London bus while a separate investigation has been launched into the death of a GCSE student who has been knocked down by a police patrol car in Newcastle. The first fatal incident occurred last night as the Northumbria Police marked car was believed to be hunting for a stolen vehicle.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
