Exclusion Zone Set Up In Hunt For Gunman
Police investigating the triple shootings in Northumberland have set up an exclusion zone around the town of Rothbury as the hunt for the gunman continues.
Raoul Moat, 37, has been on the run since allegedly shooting his former girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, 22, and killing her boyfriend, Chris Brown, 29, in Birtley, Gateshead in the early hours of Saturday. The following day, a police officer was shot and wounded in Newcastle.
Armed police officers are reported to have stormed disused farm buildings in the village in the operation, which is described as "ongoing".
It has now emerged that two men who were earlier believed to have been taken hostage by the gunman have been found and arrested for conspiracy to murder.
According to reports, police were called to Rothbury following the discovery of a car which had been sought in the investigation.
A two-mile exclusion zone is in place. Local residents have been warned to stay indoors, while anyone who was planning to travel to Rothbury today have been advised against it.
Earlier, it was revealed that a 49-page letter, allegedly written by Mr Moat, had been sent to police and The Sun newspaper. The document alleges that Moat has declared war on Northumbria Police. It states: "The public need not fear me, but the police should as I won't stop 'til I'm dead."
Mr Moat was released from prison last Thursday after serving an 18-week sentence for assault. Northumbria Police have confirmed that they had been warned that Mr Moat had threatened to seriously harm Ms Stobbart.
The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Police are also investigating an armed robbery which was carried out at a fish and chip shop in Seaton Delaval on Monday night by a man with a similar to Mr Moat.
Mr Moat is described as white, 6ft 3ins tall, with short or shaved blond hair and a large muscular build.

Gunman's Ashes Scattered Near Rothbury
The ashes of 'fugitive' gunman Raoul Moat have been scattered by his family near the spot where he took his own life. Moat died on July 10 in Rothbury following a six-hour stand-off with police. He had been on the run after shooting his former girlfriend, killing her new boyfriend and shooting a police officer.

A quarry worker has died following a "serious accident" at a site in Northumberland. It is understood the incident occurred at Harden Quarry, near Rothbury, shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday morning, 7 October. The accident is thought to have involved a tractor.

Woman Wanted In Connection With Birmingham Hit-And-Run
Police in Birmingham are hunting for a woman in connection with a fatal hit and run incident on Tuesday. A 68-year-old was hit by a car in Burney Lane, Alum Rock, just after 14:00 yesterday. She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 17:20.

Licence 'Revoked' For Moat Taser Company
The Taser firm which supplied the weapon used during the Raoul Moat stand-off has had its licence revoked. An inquest into Raoul Moat's death has heard that the weapon employed was not licensed for distribution under the Firearms Act.

Killer Gunman Has 'Hit List'
Fears are mounting that a newly released prisoner who has already killed one man and seriously injured his former girlfriend and a policeman may have a list of victims to shoot. It has also emerged that Northumbria Police was told by Durham Prison that murder suspect Raoul Moat had already threatened to kill people on his release.
