Second Arrest Made In Hainault Murder
A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested today in connection with the murder of Albert Wright.
Police were alerted to a stabbing around midnight on Friday 25 February.
The body of Albert Wright, 80 (also known as Bert) was found by his son at Albert's home in Trelawney Road.
A post-mortem gave cause of death as multiple stab wounds.
An incident room has opened under DCI John Macdonald (HSCC). Detectives believe that Albert had been out in is car on the day of his death and returned home at approximately 5.30pm.
It is thought he may have been attacked between 6pm and 7pm as people heard a disturbance at the address during this time.
DCI Macdonald said: "This was a really violent attack on an 80-year-old man at this home. It is not clear at the moment what the motive is.
Nothing has been taken from the property and there is no evidence of a forced entry.
"Bert was a popular resident of Hainault and there is nothing in his background to suggest why anyone would kill him.
"I would urge anyone who has information about who may have done this to come forward. It was a cowardly attack and whoever did it is not worth protecting."
Today, a man aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.
A 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with the inquiry and later bailed to return pending further inquiries - he has subsequently been released with no further action.
