Northampton Woman Dies In Nightclub Crush
A "multi-agency investigation" is to take place after a woman died and several were injured during a "crush" incident in a city nightclub.
During the incident at the Lava & Ignite nightclub in Northampton town centre on Wednesday morning, fire crews and police were called to the club at 3.37am, a spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service said.
A woman died and three other people were injured. Two were critically hurt and both are being treated at Northampton General Hospital.
A police spokesman said the fatal and critical injuries were all thought to be the result of crushing but the police investigation into the incident is continuing to establish what happened.
A scene investigation is currently taking place within the club and there is a police guard outside the premises.
Woolmonger Street was closed during the early hours of this morning to enable the emergency services to access the site.
A mobile police station will be on the site today.
