Burlusconi Urged To Step Down
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is under further pressure after his main coaltion partner has urged him to step aside ahead of a crucial budget vote. Umberto Bossi, of the Northern League, has on several occasions expressed doubts about Mr Berlusconi's abilities, but it is the first time he has publicly called for the controversial Prime Minister to step down. New network Al Jazeera has announced that two journalists close to Berlusconi believe he could resign within hours, with his centre-right coalition on the verge of collapse before a crucial public-finance vote on Tuesday.
M56 Trucker Named
Police have named the lorry driver who died after his truck fell off a bridge onto the M56 in Cheshire. Tony Sainsbury, 42, from Walton in Liverpool, was killed in the incident at junction 11 near Warrington just before 15:30 GMT on Monday. No other vehicles were involved but two passing motorists were treated for shock. The lorry had been carrying household goods. The motorway was closed, but re-opened at 04:00 GMT after being resurfaced. A spokesperson for the North West Air Ambulance previously said it was "an absolute miracle" that no-one else had been badly injured in the crash. The A56 above the motorway, on which the lorry had been travelling, was also shut for several hours but has since reopened. Anyone with any information about the crash has been asked to contact Cheshire Police.
Man Detained Over Attempted Axe Murder
A man who plunged an axe into his victim's head in an entirely unprovoked attack has been detained indefinitely. Thomas O'Connell, 26 of Green Lanes N4 received an indefinite hospital order on Friday 4 November having previously pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to attempted murder. Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command began an investigation following the incident in December last year. Police were called at 9.15pm by a member of the public after a man was discovered collapsed in Haringey's Finsbury Park, close to the Manor House entrance. The 26-year-old victim, Marcin Dzioba, suffered multiple serious head injuries. He had been sat on a bench when he was attacked from behind, giving him no chance to defend himself. He was struck several times with the heavy axe, which it was later discovered O'Connell had bought from a DIY store near his home just before the incident.
3,000 Arrests In Three Months Since Disorder
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has arrested more than 3,000 people in connection with the disorder across London in August. Three months on, a total of 3003 people have been arrested of which 1931 have resulted in charges or cautions. As officers from Operation Withern, the investigation into the crimes during disorder, continue to arrest people.. On Monday the MPS released a further 71 pictures of those jailed for crimes during the disorder that took place in August, with sentences totalling 100 years. Commander Steve Rodhouse, who is in charge of the investigation, said: "This is an important milestone for the investigation but our work is far from over. We continue to arrest and charge people every day which is testament to the hard work of the officers involved in this investigation."

Further Arrests Made Over London Protests
Arrests made in connection with the disorder in central London last Thursday now total 40. On the day of the protests 34 people were arrested and taken to various London police stations, however they were all later bailed to return pending further inquiries. On Sunday a number of further arrests were made.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Appeal For Information After Body Found In Fife
Police in Fife have appealed for information into an ongoing investigation following the discovery of a man's body in Glenrothes. Police discovered the body of Aleksandrs Sokolovs (29) inside a property on Tummel Road on Monday. The death of the Latvian-national is being treated as suspicious.

More Arrests Made During Investigation Into Police Payments
Three people have been arrested in connection with illegal payments made to police and public officials by journalists. This brings the total number of people arrested, as part of Scotland Yard’s Operation Elveden, to 26 since last July. Police have said that information provided by News Corporation led to the arrests.
