Inquest Into Gary Speed Death Opens
An inquest into the death of former Wales football manager Gary Speed is to begin on Monday.
Gary Speed, 42, who became a well known player during his career at Newcastle, Leeds and Bolton, among others, was found hanged at his Cheshire home in November last year by his wife Louise. He had appeared publicly as a guest on the BBC One television programme Football Focus only hours beforehand.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the old father of two.
The inquest comes on the heels of an announcement by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) that the national team's game against Costa Rica on February 29 will be dedicated to their former manager.
The FAW appointed Chris Coleman as the new manager of Wales earlier this month after what they admitted had been “a very difficult period” following the death.
The inquest is due to take place at 2pm at Warrington Coroner's Court before the coroner for Cheshire, Nicholas Rheinberg.
