22-Year-Old Man To Be Charged With Christina Edkins Murder

A man is to be charged with the murder of 16-year-old Christina Edkins, who was stabbed to death on a bus in Birmingham last week.

Christina was on her way to school in Halesowen during the morning rush hour on Thursday when she was attacked. A postmortem examination showed she died from a single stab wound to the chest.

West Midlands police that 22-year-old Walsall man Phillip Simelane was to be charged with murder.

He was arrested five hours after the attack, and later moved to a secure unit for a mental health assessment.

Christina was attacked at around 7.30am on the top deck of a crowded double-decker bus.

An emergency doctor and paramedics from West Midlands ambulance service tried to resuscitate Christina but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

22-year-old Philip Simelane has appeared before Birmingham Crown Court charged with the murder of Christina Edkins, who was killed in a knife attack on a bus during the morning rush hour last week. Christina Edkins was stabbed to death on board the bus on Hagley Road while on her way to Leasowes High School in Halesowen on 7 March.

Suspected London bomber to be returned to UK
A British man wanted for questioning in connection with the failed London bomb attacks on July 21 is to be extradited to the UK within 35 days, an Italian court has ruled. Osman Hussein (27) will appeal the decision to the Italian Supreme court, according to his lawyers.

Man Charged With Murder After Punching Woman At Bus Station
A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder after punching a woman in the early hours of Thursday morning in Manchester city centre. Police have said that a 30-year-old woman died from serious head injuries. The incident happened at Shudehill bus station at around 01:10 in the morning. She died a short time later in hospital.

Man Charged With Bus Murder
A 23-year-old Peterlee man, just named by ITN as Gary Robson, 23, has gone before the local Magistrates' Court in Co Durham charged over the death of Stan Dixon. According to police, Mr Dixon died from serious head injuries after he was allegedly attack on a bus between Hartlepool and Horden, on Saturday.
