Online Distribution Of Child Abuse 'Industrialised'
The posting of the sexual abuse and violence inflicted on children online is getting worse, according to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.
Centre director Peter Davies has warned MPs that victims appear to be getting younger and that the dissemination of images of abuse has become industrialised.
It is understood that "peer to peer" remains the largest method of transfer but that the so-called "hidden internet" was used for the trade of the "worst we have seen".
Mr Davies repeated the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre's estimate, given earlier this year, that about 50,000 people in the UK will commit offences "at least to the level of possessing indecent images of children".
He also said: "Victims seem to be getting younger and younger and the level of abuse seems to be getting worse. There's no comfort in any of these details."
