Four Arrested Following Bar Fight

Police are appealing for witnesses following a bar brawl on Tuesday (7 January).

The incident, which happened at the Shireland public house on Shireland Road, Smethwick, resulted in four people being arrested. Police were called to the scene just after 11pm following reports that a fight had broken out and had resulted in several tables, glasses and windows being smashed.

Three men, aged 25, 29 and 33 were arrested for violent disorder and affray. They have since been released on bail with strict instructions not to enter the pub. A 31-year-old woman was also arrested for criminal damage. She was later released without charge.

Commenting on the incident, Sergeant Leighton Shingles said: "We are currently reviewing the bar's CCTV, but we would like to hear from anyone who was in the Shireland at the time of the fight and can help us piece together what happened.

"We would particularly like to hear from a slim Asian man with a bald or shaved head. He is approximately 35 to 40 years old and around 5'9" tall. We believe he may have been assaulted in the disturbance."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Man Injured In Hit And Run

Sussex Police has confirmed a man has been injured following a hit-and-run incident in Horsham.

On Wednesday (8 January), at around 8.30pm, police received a report that a man had been struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross New Street in Horsham. The vehicle did not stop following the collision.

The victim, who is 52-years-old, was taken to East Surrey Hospital with a suspected fractured ankle.

PC Ben Henwood said: "I'd like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the accident or the vehicle leaving the scene afterwards. If you have any information at all please contact us."

RMT Announce Strike Action

The union RMT has announced two 48-hour strikes on the Tube are to take place next month.

The industrial action will take place on 4 and 5 February, and 11 and 12 February.

In a statement, it said London Underground workers voted to go on strike in protest at plans to close ticket offices and cut 750 jobs.

Some 77% of Rail Maritime and Transport Union members voting in the ballot backed strike action.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said the plans included axing "safety critical jobs" at a time when the Tube network was "under growing pressure from customer demand and needs more staff and not less to ensure safe and efficient operation".

Transport for London has said it wants to close all ticket offices and have staff on platforms instead in an effort to save £50m a year. It has previously said all stations would be staffed while services were running, with more staff being visible to help customers, and that there would be no compulsory redundancies.
