Luton Airport Evacuated Following Security Alert

Luton Airport has been evacuated after a suspicious object was found in the security search area.

All incoming flights have been suspended and the road to the airport has also been closed by police.

A statement from the airport said: "The decision has been taken with the police to ensure the safety and security of passengers and staff.

"Further updates regarding the security and operations at the Airport will be provided as soon as possible. "

Passengers are being advised to contact their airlines to find out the status of flights.

Airport security relaxed following terror alert
Restrictions on hand luggage at UK airports have been relaxed, following the government's reduction in the security threat level from 'critical' to 'severe'. However airport operator BAA has warned that strict security is remaining in place at all UK airports, with passengers still facing delays at some airports.

Security alert at Edinburgh airport ends
An emergency security alert at Edinburgh airport has ended. The airport was evacuated shortly after midday following the discovery of a suspicious rucksack in the check-in area. However, the rucksack, which is believed to have been discovered shoved into the top of a bin, was blown up in a controlled explosion.

BA Chairman Criticises Airport Security
The Chairman of British Airways is being supported by the aviation industry in calling for a radical overhaul to airport security checks. Speaking at the annual conference of the UK Airport Operators Association in London, Martin Broughton said that some parts of the security programme are "completely redundant".
