Two Men Arrested Over Merseyside PC Road Death
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a police officer was struck and killed on Monday during a car pursuit in Merseyside.
Constable Dave Philips, 34, died from internal injuries after being hit by a pick-up vehicle that mounted a central reservation in Wallasey on Monday.
He had been trying to stop the vehicle which had been stolen from an estate agents in Birkenhead.
The men, aged 18 and 30, are being detained in police custody.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson said: "Since the investigation was launched yesterday we have been inundated with calls from members of the public and as a result we are following up a number of positive lines of inquiry."
He added his thanks to the public for their support and urged anyone with information to come foward.

Eight men charged with terror offences
Eight men have been charged with terrorism-related offences, the BBC has reported today. All eight are expected to appear before Bow Street Magistrates Court tomorrow and will face charges including conspiracy to commit murder. A ninth man who was also being held has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.
