Police Seek Mother Of Dumped Baby
Police are continuing to search for the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was found in a bag dumped on a cycle path in Inverclyde.
The baby's body was found in a holdall on a track in Port Glasgow by a jogger on Wednesday.
The area was cordoned off in order for forensic teams to carry out tests.
Detective Inspector Mark McGowan said that police were focused on finding the baby's mother, to make sure that she was okay and received the appropriate medical treatment.
He said: "If anyone knows who the mother is, please, for her sake, inform the police or social services."
DI McGowan said that the track where the body was found was well used and urged anyone who saw anything unusual to get in touch.
He said: "We are asking anyone who may have seen something unusual in the area and perhaps did not think it was anything untoward at the time, to get in touch.
"This is a tragedy that does not occur very often. We are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of why this happened and talk to the mother and ascertain the circumstances."
