A statement released by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of Therese Mfuilu said: "Since moving to England, Jonathan and I have stayed in many areas of Sheffield. In each area we have lived, he made friends. Jonathan has many friends all over the city.
"I am very upset and cannot believe what has happened and how my boy has died this way. I miss him all the time.
"I am grateful to those who have come forward to speak to the police with any information they may have.
"I ask anyone out there who has any more information at all to find it in their hearts to contact police and tell them what they know."
