Man Charged Over 64-Year-Old's Death

A man has been charged with the murder of a 64-year-old man. Clifford Champion, from Waltham Forest, east London, died on 27 February, three days after he collapsed less than a mile from his home on Westward Road. Sean Lucas, 23, from the Chingford area of north-east London, has been charged with his murder, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said. He is due to appear at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Elderly Man Dies In Crash

An elderly man has died following a crash in Cumbernauld, Scotland. The 84-year-old was driving a Peugeot which collided with a Ford Fiesta at the junction between Redwood Road and Forest Road at about 9.10am on Thursday. A 77-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Peugeot suffered minor injuries and remained under observation in Monklands Hospital. The driver of the other car was treated for a minor shoulder injury. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Teen Charged Over Murder

A teenager has been charged with killing a pensioner who died three weeks after he was attacked in a Wirral village. Alan Corney was assaulted on The Parade on 14 November last year, and collapsed a month later. He died on 6 February. James Crawford, 18, from Gresford in Wrexham, north Wales, was charged with manslaughter on Thursday night and is due to appear before Chester Magistrates’ Court later. A 17-year-old boy, also from Gresford, was arrested along with Mr Crawford on Wednesday on suspicion of Mr Corney's murder. He has since been questioned and released without charge.

Uni's To Benefit From Projects Boost

More than 50 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are set to get a share of £200m brought forward to fund building projects in a bid to stimulate growth during the economic downturn. 97 projects announced by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) today will share £150m. A second round has now opened for the remaining £50m, and the total amount will be spent by the end of the next financial year, as announced in the pre budget report. These capital projects, selected to have a positive effect on the local and national economy, in particular the construction industry, have an overall value of almost £280m.

Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

A pedestrian has been knocked down and killed by a driver who failed to stop at the scene in Bradford. The male pedestrian, who has not been named, was struck by two vehicles in Thornton Road, Girlington, at 8.30pm on Thursday. He became trapped under one of them and was pronounced dead at the scene. West Yorkshire Police said officers were trying to trace the driver of one of the vehicles who left the scene and appealed for witnesses to contact them. The road was closed for several hours after the crash.

23 Charged With Drug Offences Following Raids
More than 20 people have been charged with drug offences following a number of raids carried out in London, Gravesend, Dover and Deal. A total of 23 people were arrested during twenty raids carried out over three days. The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 52, have all been charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Suspected London bomber to be returned to UK
A British man wanted for questioning in connection with the failed London bomb attacks on July 21 is to be extradited to the UK within 35 days, an Italian court has ruled. Osman Hussein (27) will appeal the decision to the Italian Supreme court, according to his lawyers.

Man Charged With Road Accident Stabbing Murder
A 34-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Donald Lock in Findon, who was stabbed following a minor traffic accident in Worthing on Thursday, 16 July. Matthew Daley, of St Elmo Road, Worthing, was charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

Man Charged With Murder After Punching Woman At Bus Station
A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder after punching a woman in the early hours of Thursday morning in Manchester city centre. Police have said that a 30-year-old woman died from serious head injuries. The incident happened at Shudehill bus station at around 01:10 in the morning. She died a short time later in hospital.

22-Year-Old Man To Be Charged With Christina Edkins Murder
A man is to be charged with the murder of 16-year-old Christina Edkins, who was stabbed to death on a bus in Birmingham last week. Christina was on her way to school in Halesowen during the morning rush hour on Thursday when she was attacked. A postmortem examination showed she died from a single stab wound to the chest.
