Two Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan Blast
Two British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed.
The two service personnel from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, serving with 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, died travelling in an off-road armoured Jackal vehicle in Garmsir district in southern Helmand.
The soldiers died during the afternoon of Sunday 15 March 2009, as a result of an enemy explosion during a vehicle patrol.
Next of kin have been informed.
Commander Paula Rowe, spokeswoman for Task Force Helmand, said: "The deaths of these two soldiers will be keenly felt by all in the taskforce and particularly by those who worked alongside them.
"Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies go to their families and loved ones and we offer our thoughts and prayers to them all at this painful and distressing time."
On Saturday, Lance Corporal Christopher Harkett from Pontardawe near Swansea died in a blast in Musa Qala in northern Helmand.
Tributes poured in for the 22-year-old sniper, from 2nd Battalion, Royal Welsh Regiment, who died covering fire for his fellow servicemen.
Defence Secretary John Hutton said: "It is clear that L/Cpl Christopher Harkett was a dedicated and enthusiastic soldier from a family with a strong military tradition."
Maj Sid Welham, commanding officer of C Company, 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh, said: "Lance Corporal Chris 'H' Harkett personified the spirit and character of The Royal Welsh."
The number of British service personnel who have died in Afghanistan since operations began has risen to 152.

Two soldiers killed in southern Iraq
Two British soldiers have died following an ambush outside the town of Basra in southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. Soldiers came under fire as they tried to rescue others from an armoured Land Rover which had been hit by a rocket-propelled grenade at around 0615BST.

Many More Die In Afghanistan
The UK's death toll in the Afghan conflict has passed the 200 milestone. The three British soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan, took the number of UK fatalities to 204 - following two other military deaths at the weekend. The numbers are in addition to a private security guard from Northern Ireland being killed.

British soldier killed in Iraq
A British soldier has died after being involved in a shooting in Iraq earlier this week. The soldier, from 58 Battery of 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, died as a result of injuries sustained in a shooting in the town of Al Qurna, north of Basra, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.
