Second Jogger Buzzed By Buzzard

A runner has been attacked by a renegade buzzard.

It is the second time this month that a jogger needed medical treatment after being attacked by one of the birds.

Stuart Urquhart, 36, a solicitor, sustained talon slashes around his head after the bird of prey attacked him on his morning run.

Mr Urquhart was holidaying in Helford, Cornwall with his family when the buzzard swooped from behind last week.

He went to Falmouth Minor Injuries Unit for a tetanus injection and was found to have three six centimetre gashes on his scalp from the claws.

Mr Urquhart, from Bristol, told the BBC: "I was jogging along a very quiet lane near the river at about 9am when I suddenly felt something on the back of my head.

"I thought somebody had thrown some heavy sacking or carpet at me but I couldn't see anyone.

"I carried on a few paces and then saw blood running down me and noticed a buzzard flying off into the trees."

On Tuesday, plasterer Paul Powell was rushed to hospital after he was set upon by a large buzzard who targeted him on a four mile run.

An RSPB spokesman said it was unusual for buzzards to attack humans, but they could become aggressive if they felt their young were threatened.
