Forensic Search Begins At Flats In Jockey Fire Death Probe
A search is beginning at the flats where two apprentice jockeys died in a blaze at the weekend.
Scenes of crime officers and fire investigators will carry out the detailed forensic examination at the flats in Norton, near Malton, north Yorkshire, where Jamie Kyne, 18, and Jan Wilson, 19, died in a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The search is expected to take up to three days.
Mr Kyne, from Galway and Miss Wilson, from Forfar, Angus, were killed in the blaze, while another Irish-born rider Ian Brennan, 20, was able to leap to safety.
He went on to ride at Thirsk later on Saturday, just hours after his release from hospital.
A fourth jockey, Dean Pratt, was also treated for burns and smoke inhalation at york District Hospital.
A local man in his thirties, who was arrested shortly after the fire broke out, has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries by police.
Mr Kyne, who was apprentice to Malton-based trainer John Quinn, was widely regarded as a rising star among apprentice riders in the UK, having won 29 races this year. He had been due to ride at Haydock on Saturday.
Miss Wilson had won three races.
Periods of silence where held at a number of racecourses in tribute to Mr Kyne and Miss Wilson over the weekend.
