Jennifer's Cardy Murder Charge Denied

A Scottish man currently serving a lengthy prison sentence is set to deny involvement in a shock NI abduction and murder case dating back to 1981.

Robert Black, who is from Scotland - but is serving a life sentence at Wakefield Prison in England - spoke only to confirm he understood the charges, leaving it to his solicitor to tell Lisburn Magistrates Court that he would contest the charges.

The 62-year-old man was remanded in custody charged with murdering the nine-year-old girl, who was abducted and killed in Co Antrim 28 years ago.

The case revolves around how Jennifer Cardy disappeared from Ballinderry village in August 1981 while cycling to a friend's house.

Fishermen later found her body at McKee's Dam near Hillsborough in Co Down.

The accused was remanded in custody to Craigavon Court where he will be arraigned on 1 March.
