Renewed call for Loughinisland killings investigation
SDLP MLA for South Down, Eamon O'Neill has written to PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde over allegations that ammunition used in the Loughinisland pub killings nine years ago came from an Army base.
Six Catholic men were killed and five others wounded during a UVF gun attack at The Heights Bar in the town. People in the bar at the time were watching a televised World Cup football match when the gunmen entered.
In his letter Mr O'Neill asked the chief constable if he was aware of the allegations that ammunition came from an Army base and if so, would his new unit be investigating them.
"People in the area have always been concerned that no one was ever brought to book for these terrible murders.
"These latest allegations that ammunition used in the murders came from Ballykinlar army camp are deeply worrying," Mr O'Neill said.
His letter follows the announcement that a new police unit is to be established which will deal with unresolved murders.
