Met Office Issues Yellow Warning For Ice And Snow

A yellow alert for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office.

The forecaster has warned that overnight clear spells following by rain, sleet and snow, will result in icy conditions.

"Temperatures will fall to below freezing in most places, so there is a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.

"Please be aware of the potential for difficult travelling conditions and minor disruption," the Met Office said.

More Than 900 Young People Commended For Volunteering Excellence

Education Minister John O'Dowd has congratulated 960 14 to 24-year-olds on volunteering excellence, at the Millennium Volunteers Awards of Excellence ceremony in Armagh Planetarium.

Speaking at the event, Minister O'Dowd said: "Tonight's event is just one of six that will see 960 young people from across the North receive a 200 Hour Goldmark Award.

"Volunteering for 200 hours is quite a contribution and I want to thank you for the time and effort you have given to your communities. I never fail to be impressed by the enthusiasm, passion and commitment of young people. Those receiving awards have set an example for all of us and rightly deserve recognition."

Glenavy Man Found Guilty Of Animal Cruelty

A donkey owner from Glenavy has been found guilty of two charges under the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011.

Mr Steele pleaded guilty to failure to make adequate provision for the welfare of six donkeys and causing unnecessary suffering, the Court ordered he pay costs of £1,059.98 and £166.

In addition to the fines, the judge gave Mr Steele a lifetime ban from owning animals, from keeping animals, from participating in the keeping of animals; and from being party to an arrangement under which that person is entitled to control or influence the way in which the animals are kept.
