Omagh bomb accused remanded in custody
A south Armagh man has been remanded in custody by Belfast Magistrates today charged with murdering 29 people in the Omagh bomb.
Sean Gerard Hoey, 35, from Molly Road in Jonesborough, was remanded to appear again before Belfast magistrates on August 10 following today's appearance by videolink from Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim.
Hoey originally appeared before a court in May to hear he would face 61 new charges linked to the bombing as well as the 29 charges of murder.
Twenty-nine people were killed and hundreds injured in the car bomb attack in the Co Tyrone town on 15 August 1998.
The bombing, which was later claimed by dissident republican paramilitary group the Real IRA, was the worst single atrocity in the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’.
