Man beaten in paramilitary-style attack

A 35-year-old man is recovering in hospital today after being beaten in a paramilitary-style attack in Co Antrim last night.

At around 11.30pm, three men – two armed with handguns and one with a blunt instrument – burst into the victim's home on the Stiles estate in Antrim. The two gunmen pointed their weapons at the man as the third carried out the assault.

The victim suffered puncture wounds to his legs and elbows, and required five stitches for a head wound.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Elsewhere, a 29-year-old man is set to appear in court today to face four terrorist-related charges.

Andrew Logan, from Carnhill Walk, Carrickfergus, was charged with possessing firearms and ammunition, explosives and a computer disk likely to be of use to terrorists.

Mr Logan denied the charges and was remanded in custody until February 7.

The charges relate to the uncovering of a bomb-making factory at Castlemara Drive, Carrickfergus, last week.
