Police issue warning over bogus callers
Police have warned householders to be wary after a bogus caller tried to gain entry to a pensioner's house in Belfast yesterday.
An elderly pensioner was in her Cromac Street home yesterday afternoon when a man claiming to be from the Water Service called at her door. The pensioner refused him entry when he could not provide any identification.
Initial inquiries with the Water Service suggest that the man was a bogus caller.
Police have asked for householders, and particularly the elderly, to be vigilant and to demand identification from people purporting to represent public agencies.
If there are any doubts, householders are advised to use the police emergency 999 number.
There have been a number of similar incidents of late. The most recent incident of this kind occurred last week, when an 82-year-old pensioner in north Belfast had a substantial amount of money stolen after she let a man into her home who claimed to be investigating a water leak.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Cold Callers Target Elderly Residents In Ballymoney
Elderly and vulnerable residents in the Ballymoney area are being targeted by cold callers requesting that they hand over any new £5 notes. A man and woman claiming to be from the government are asking residents to return all notes to them as they are no longer of legal tender.

Attempted robbery of County Down pensioner
Police have warned people to be vigilant after bogus callers attempted to rob a pensioner in County Down. The incident happened at around 2.30pm yesterday, when a boy called to the 86-year-old woman's home at Vianstown in Downpatrick, claiming that he had kicked his football into her back garden.

Appeal Issued To Trace Missing Pensioner From Co Antrim
Police have issued an appeal to help trace a missing 81-year-old woman from Co Antrim. Marjorie Roebuck from Broughshane was last seen on Wednesday, 07 September. Police said they are concerned for her welfare. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the PSNI.
